Fixing "Another MySQL daemon already running with the same unix socket."

Sometimes, we run into an error like this, when starting mySQLd

[root@testbox ~]# service mysqld start
Stopping mysqld: [ OK ]
Another MySQL daemon already running with the same unix socket.
Starting mysqld: [FAILED]

Fixing this error is easy, first, Check if you have the following file,

ls -l /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock

You should get the following output,

srwxrwxrwx 1 mysql mysql 0 Jan 6 12:31 /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock

Delete this file, if it exists,

rm -f /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock

Restart mySQLd

service mysqld start

If all goes well, you should get the following output,

[root@testbox ~]# service mysqld restart
Stopping mysqld: [ OK ]
Starting mysqld: [ OK ]
