How to Change Your Linux Password via Desktop (VNC)
This guide is for users accessing a VPS with a desktop environment over VNC and want to change their Linux user password through the terminal.
🖥️ Step 1: Connect to Your VPS via VNC
Use your preferred remote desktop client (e.g., Remmina, RealVNC, or Our CrownPanel VNC) to connect to your VPS.
🧭 Step 2: Open the Terminal
Most Linux desktop environments support the shortcut:
Press Ctrl + Alt + T
This will open a terminal window.
🔐 Step 3: Change the Password
In the terminal, type:
passwd
Then press Enter.
You will see:
Enter new UNIX password:
Type your new password (note: it will be hidden) and press Enter.
Re-type the new password when prompted, then press Enter.
You should see a confirmation message:
password updated successfully

exit
Press Enter
