How to Install a Desktop (GUI) Graphical Interface on your Ubuntu server.

By default, Ubuntu Server does not include a Graphical User Interface (GUI). A GUI takes up system resources (memory and processor) that are used for server-oriented tasks. For some tasks and applications, the GUI environment is easy to manage and work better, in this guide we'll show you to install a desktop environment in the ubuntu server.

Check for system updates and install them.

apt update

apt upgrade

Next, Install Tasksel Manager.

Tasksel is a Debian/Ubuntu tool that installs multiple related packages as a co-ordinated "task" onto your system. For more info click here

apt install tasksel

Lunch the tasksel and install GNOME

A GUI interface will launch, Use the arrow key to scroll down the list and find Ubuntu desktop or other Desktop option.

Note: Use the Space key to select it, press Tab to select OK at the bottom, then press Enter.

After the package is installed reboot the server, you will see the WELCOME page.
